DIY Vintage Sewing Machine Polymer Clay Tutorial

 

Hi everyone!

Recently I have grown a love for old sewing machines- in particular the famous Singer sewing machine. This inspiration lead to this treasure of an idea! In this tutorial I will show you how to make your own polymer clay model which can be adapted into a piece of jewellery or an ornament.

 

Before we start you will need a few things;

~Black, Brown and Silver effect polymer clay,

~Eye Pins,

~Permanent Marker Gold and Silver Pens,

~Printed Logo,

~Super Glue.

To begin take your black clay and roll in a ball to soften(1) for this tutorial you will need slightly more than in other tutorials.

 

Next roll the ball into a thick sausage shape(2) and bend around 1/4 from the right hand side to make a shape that looks a bit like a gun(3), and slightly flatten the end facing downwards.

 

Take the left end of the sausage and pinch upwards and downwards (looking at an image helps with this step)(4) .

 

After that take another, smaller piece of black clay, roll into a sausage and then flatten into a long pancake shape(5).

 

Place the main sewing machine on top(6) and gently push to secure into place. Add eye pins and details and then bake for the time and temperature stated on the packaging of your polymer clay.

 

Once baked use your paint pens to add smaller details and print off the labels below (save the image below, then insert and resize as an a4 sheet of paper into word) and then varnish to complete.

DIY Vintage Camera Phone Case

Hello everyone!

This post will show you how to make your very own vintage camera phone/gadget case to match along side my very popular polymer clay camera tutorial!

 

Before we get started there is just a few things you will need;

~A range of pretty fabrics,

~any extras you wish to add,

~sewing machine (or needle and thread if you wish to sew by hand),

~The printed pattern which can be found in the link below

To begin gather all of your equipment and cut out the pattern, and pin to your chosen fabrics. Then accurately cut out your shapes.

 

Sew the decoration onto the front side of the main phone sock, using the first image as a guide. Remember to pin, in order to stop the fabric moving and to ensure straight seams and lines of stitching.

 

Once all of your decoration is sewn, place the two sides of fabric on top of each other back to front and pin. Sew around 3 sides and then hem the top, add a strap to the top and voila!

Love DIY Wire Ring

Hello everyone,

This tutorial will help you to make your own wire ring, which spells out love, (shown on the ring finger on the picture above). I know that there are loads of these tutorials online, but this again is my own and I have tried to find the easiest possible ways to make something that looks incredible. This project should only take 5-15 minutes.

So, before we start you will need(1);

~Wire (mines a 0.6mm thickness bought from Hobby Craft),

~Round Nose Pliers (any pliers will do, but round nose give better results on curves),

~Scissors.

To begin, take your wire and cut it approximately between 15-20cm, the longer the wire piece the more  you have to work with, but also more excess waste. Take your pliers and make a loop at the end of the wire piece (2). This can be done by wrapping the wire around the one side, making sure you move the plier as you do so. Once you have done this you should end up with a small loop(3), take your pliers again and make a slightly bigger loop (the nearer to the end of the plier nose, the smaller the loop will be), further along the wire(4) (this is the start of the letter 'L'). At this point make sure that the wire is pointing towards you.

Next make a small loop where you would like the corner of your 'L' to go (5)(only loop around your pliers once) and make sure that your wire faces back to its original direction(6). After that you should see your ring start to take shape. Make another loop (trust me there are many more loops to come), this one should be slightly bigger than the others(7). Make sure that after this step your wire is pointing upwards(8).

Take your wire at the point just after the 'O' and bend so that the wire points downwards. Then bend again at an angle to create the 'v' (9) and then again so that the wire points horizontally(10). This time take your pliers under your wire ring and bend into a letter 'e' (11). Your 'Love' wording is now complete.

Finally (sorry about the picture quality, I couldn't get a clear picture it was that small), bend the excess around a cylinder object like a lipstick top or something lying around. Measure the ring against your finger and thread the other side of the wire through a loop (13), normally I would thread it through the first loop, however it did not sit properly on my finger, so I threaded it through the bottom one instead.

Use your scissors to cut the wire down and use your pliers to loop (again) the threaded wire around, this stops any sharp edges scratching your finger. 

Your ring is now ready to wear (sorry if those instructions were confusing in parts, the pictures should help). Harry Potter Inspired Spellbook DIY

 

Hello Everyone!

Ok in my last post I lied, here is another tutorial, again inspired by possibly my most favourite series of films- Harry Potter. Before we start you will need:

~Paper,

~One Piece of Card,

~A Computer and Printer,

~The pictures at bottom of page on an a4 resized File

(print with page1and 4 on outer side of 2 and 3etc.)

~Coffee,

~water,

~Glue gun and Sticks,

~Fabric look-a-like leather (any strong, dark fabric will do)

 



To begin print the pictures and fold in the centre. This will make it easier later.

Gather your coffee, brush and water and paint the paper on both sides. (you can use tea if you wish, coffee just has a stronger colour). Its a good idea to use a hairdryer to help speed up the process.

 



 

Once you have applied your first layer add another, this time darker and only around the edges; it's a good idea to use the hairdryer again- so keep it on the side. When you have finished with the coffee and everything is dry, cut around the pale peachy outlines and refold along the centre lines.

 

Next we are going to start assembling the spell book. Take your fabric and cut it to a similar size to the pages. Then take your card (I used a light yellow colour card for this and it worked well), fold down the centre and glue to the back of your fabric cover.

 

After that take the folded edges of your paper pages and line them up. Glue gun along the top and make sure that non of the pages fall out when you flick through.

 

Your nearly finished! Simply glue the spine of the pages into the centre fold of your card and voila!

The very last step is to add the title of your book onto the front, I simply used gold and silver marker paint pens. Once they were dry I lightly rubbed over the word to make them look distressed and old.

Starbucks Coffee Polymer Clay Tutorial

Hi everyone, another polymer clay tutorial. Today is a Starbucks coffee tutorial, great for any coffee lovers out there. A number of tutorials can be found online but unfortunately non worked the way I wanted, therefore I made my own.

For this tutorial you will simply need:
~A Piping Nozzel,
~White Clay,
~Brown Clay,
~Translucent Clay (I used Fimo),
~A Craft Knife or Blade.

Firstly take your white clay and cut into a smaller piece as this will make it more manageable, and will not make the brown clay any lighter when we come to mix.

Next step is (as you probably guessed) to mix the brown and white clay, simply roll and twist. But you want it too have a swirly appearance so don't get carried away.

Once you have mixed your clay it should look like this. Roll into a ball and then into a sausage shape- making the ends flat.

Cut the clay to an appropriate size (out of this I can make two Starbucks coffee charms).

Then take your translucent clay and roll into a sausage shape, next cut to approximately the circumference of the coffee cup and position around the edge. (Tip: For the bottom position on the underside, as this will make the top look bigger and more realistic.)

After that feed your remaining white clay through the piping nozzle, this will make a creamy effect, and swirl on top of your coffee cup.

Finally add an eye pin or dust plug and mini straw, bake and add a printout Starbucks logo.

Harry Potter Inspired Wands

This project was inspired by my inner fan, as I hear that official replicas are often expensive. By using supplies that I found around the home and multiple online tutorials I found a way to create my own professional looking props.

By using simply using a hot glue gun on a chopstick, and then using wooden shades of acrylic paint, they were not only cheap and easy but they dried quite quickly! The box was simply made by cutting a box net from cardboard and again painting, I also stuck on labels which were found online (if you're a fan then you might recognise the name).

Minion Polymer Clay Tutorial

                           

This tutorial is how to make a polymer clay minion, this can be made in different sizes and can be made into a range of pieces of jewellery and accessories (e.g. Key ring, dust plug, pendant). This post, like previous polymer clay tutorials is 100% my own and has been used to make pieces for my friends, the first minion was made from a picture.

For this tutorial you will need:

~Yellow Clay,

~Blue Clay,

~Black Clay,

~Grey Clay,

~White Clay,

~A Craft Knife,

~A Rolling Pin, 

~And jewellery findings.

Firstly take your clay colours (1) and roll them into balls (this will make it easier to handle when modelling), then take the yellow clay and roll into a sausage (2) making sure the ends curve slightly.

                                    

Next we need to add on facial features to our character, (3) thinly roll out the black clay and cut an amount that will go around the yellow sausage and leave a slight gap (4). Roll out a small ball of white clay and lightly flatten (5), this will make the base of the eye, and place in the gap made.

After that roll out another thin sausage with they grey clay and position around the outerside of the eye(6). You can also roll a small ball out of black clay to produce the pupil, or this can be painted on after baking. Another facial addition is a mouth, a craft knife can be used to add this on, but remember if you cut to far it cannot be easily undone.

Then roll out a very thin sausage of black clay again, this time cut several lengths and position on top of the head to create the Minion's hair (7).

                                   

Moving on to the body, roll out the blue clay and cut the ends as we will be using these (8). Place these onto the minion with the straight edge, in the centre of the body (9). Then use left over clay to make simple legs and arms and position in a pose (10+11).

                                    

Finally add your eyepin and your minion is ready to bake in the oven (use instructions on the back of your clay). I added a "Bapple" (apple) to my minion you may wish to add a "Banana" too!
